The Global Payments payment option lets customers pay you using a credit card or debit card.

Setting up Global Payments in your shop

You can set up Global Payments payment by clicking Payment in the shop admin panel menu, clicking Global Payments, and changing the following settings:

Status

Whether Global Payments is available as a payment method.

Mode

Whether to perform test payments or live payments.

Merchant ID

Your Global Payments merchant ID.

Sub-account

Your Global Payments sub-account, which may be left blank if you do not have multiple sub-accounts on your Global Payments account. If you have an existing Global Payments account that is used on another site then you will need to ask Global Payments for an additional sub-account — otherwise your other site will stop receiving payment notifications when you set up the account for this site.

Secret

This is a secret value used to ensure the security of communications with Global Payments. This secret value will be supplied by Global Payments.

Settlement

Set to Automatic to take the funds from the customer as soon as possible. Set to Manual to take the funds only once you have logged in to Global Payments and requested settlement of the transaction.

Configuring your Global Payments account

After signing up for Global Payments, your account must be configured to connect to your site. You will need to contact Global Payments to ask for your account details for test purchases (your merchant ID, sub-account name, and shared secret), which should then be entered into the fields on the Global Payments page in the shop management panel. You will also need to provide Global Payments with your referring URL and response URL, which are shown at the top of that page.

Testing and going live

To perform the test purchase, first ensure that Global Payments is set to test mode on the Global Payments page in the shop management panel. Go through the process of making a purchase from your shop, exactly as if you were a normal customer, choosing Global Payments as the payment method. You will be taken to the Global Payments test server to make a payment. The test server only accepts the following card numbers:

Card typeCard number
MasterCard5425 2300 0000 4415
Visa4263 9700 0000 5262

If the test transaction is successful, you will be taken back to your shop and receive an e-mail confirming the transaction. After a successful test transaction, you can go live by contacting Global Payments and asking for your details for live purchases (your merchant ID, sub-account name, and shared secret), which should then be entered into the fields on the Global Payments page in the shop management panel. If your site itself is not yet live, you will also need to provide Global Payments with your live referring URL and response URL. These will be the same as the URLs displayed on that page, but with the temporary address of your site (for example, https://s1.itseeze.co.uk/sites/example/) replaced with the address your site will use when live (for example, https://example.com/).

You can then switch to live mode on the Global Payments page in the shop management panel. Once your site itself is live you may wish to make a real purchase from your shop and then void the transaction, in order to be completely certain that your account has gone live correctly.
