The PayPal payment option lets customers pay you using a credit card, debit card, or PayPal account. If you have a PayPal business account then your customers will be able to pay you by credit card or debit card without needing their own PayPal account.
PayPal and delayed order processing
PayPal works differently from other payment services, with the result that occasionally there can be a delay processing an order and sending the order confirmation e-mail.
Other payment services let the shop know as soon as the customer has entered their card details. The shop then processes the order, sends the order confirmation e-mail, and lets the payment service know that it can process the payment.
PayPal instead takes the payment immediately, and then later on sends the shop an IPN message to let it know that the payment was taken. To prevent fraud, the shop can only process the order and send the order confirmation e-mail once it receives the IPN message. Usually IPN messages are sent within minutes of the payment being taken, but occasionally PayPal fails to send the message for several hours or even a few days.
Customers that return to your shop before PayPal has sent the IPN message will see the message shown in figure 1.
