Google AdWords lets you advertise your site in Google’s search results. By connecting your site to your AdWords account you can enable remarketing, which allows Google to target advertising at people who have previously visited your website. To enable remarketing you need to connect Google AdWords to your website.

The global site tag

To connect to Google AdWords you need to find your AdWords account number. This number is included in the global site tag, which you can access by following these instructions. The global site tag looks like this:

<script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=AW-123456789">
<script>
window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments)};
gtag('js', new Date());
gtag('config', 'AW-123456789');
</script>

In two places there is some text starting AW- followed by numbers (highlighted in blue in the example above): this is your AdWords account number.

Connecting to Google AdWords

Open the settings panel and click Google AdWords in the menu on the left. Enter your AdWords account number in the field and click Connect. You can have several accounts connected to your site at a time.

If you later need to disconnect an AdWords account, click the Disconnect button next to the appropriate AdWords account number.
